There's no question Night of the Comet was made in the 1980s, and that's a positive for people who have enjoyed similarly silly sci-fi flicks like Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps and other delightfully airy efforts from that decade.

The scientists and their agenda makes the narrative flow feel somewhat clunky and episodic, taking away from what makes the cult horror sci-fi favorite such a blast to watch: walking the empty streets of Los Angeles while battling zombified survivors of the comet's deadly rays. You probably do. The survivors that are the main center in the story are two teenage girl's (one a cheerleader!). There are still a handful of creepy sequences (the confrontation in the mall) and well-developed Sci-Fi ideas (the diabolical scientists), but the emphasis largely lies on the two girls and their typically 80's pop-culture life-styles.

wake up the next morning and slowly realize that the comet's radiation killed every human being in L.A, only leaving behind small piles of red dust.
Two valley girl sisters (Kelli Mahoney and Catherine Mary Stewart) have survived somehow only to wake up finding everyone in L.A. is gone and have it all for themselves. Copyright © Fandango.
But wait, these girl's must also fight against...zombies! In spite of a questionable second half, 'Night of the Comet' is an entertaining tongue-in-cheek comedy horror with lots of nostalgia value.

T o what can we attribute the continued cult-film cachet that surrounds writer-director Thom Eberhardt’s unapologetically scrappy and endearingly enjoyable Night of the Comet? Night of the Comet is flawed but loads of fun. Literally, in the end and if you watch very closely, that plays wonderfully with the protagonist's addiction to video games (as opposed to rooted in reality): the hero/heroine rides into the dawn on the best car available, probably to keep riding on another 20 or so.
I was about to find some sad excuse to return my copy at first.
Colors benefit the most from the upgrade. Night of the Comet is a 1984 American science fiction comedy horror film written and directed by Thom Eberhardt.
You can still see all customer reviews for the product. The irreverence at the perceived end of the world constitutes Night of the Comet's biggest selling point: borrowing some of the cheekiness that George A. Romero used so well, and making it the main dish rather than the garnish. Instead of obsessing over the hidden mechanism by which people were elected to survive or die, the viewer could relax and enjoy the rest of the story. Overall, that light-red sky, the nightmarish zombie cops and the "shady" characters, among many other very welcome nuances, make this for a clever, intriguing but, most of all, original cult cinema experience, if somewhat too beautified. "Night of the Comet" is more like a miniature-tribute! Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2020. Don't expect too many, because there aren't.
Sammi, you can't get anybody on the phone because everybody's gone. I've encountered reviews stating that "Night of the Comet" is a quintessential gem of 80's horror and that it's easily one of the most intelligent tributes/parodies to older B-movies ever made. Yes, it does. The constant sound of wind blowing to represent the deserted feel of the city is almost completely gone or comes in such a low volume that it's barely audible at all. At times the film can be downright chilling.
|, April 18, 2014 With great performances from the cast and weird laughs about Valley girls being responsible for the fate of humanity, the film has grown in stature since its release to become a cult sci-fi favorite. For some reason Night of the Comet has visited my VCR every once in awhile since the 80's.
Nobody is the phone company anymore! How Thom Eberhardt did ALL this spectacular on a $700K budget is amazing. | Rotten (7). A camp, 80s sci-fi caper that's dated but still enjoyable.
Your AMC Ticket Confirmation# can be found in your order confirmation email. The radio station broadcasts their conversation and a think tank of creepy scientists are on their trail, as are a bandit of department store zombies who are also survivors but are slowly dying of the effects of the comet.
The scientist bunker element provided a perfect metaphor that the places for those who feel better than the rest end up crumbling, outweighed by the flow of life itself.
We've got, as previously and numerously mentioned, Chakotay from Voyager (NOT Erik Estrada from C.H.i P.s!

The only downside is the fact it seems like a TV film/80s MTV video with its fuzzy camera-work. I am horribly fascinated with EotW films. Was this review helpful? The plot may be ridiculous, but that goes for every type of film of this caliber. In fact, I thought it was a pretty high quality B movie, if that makes sense, and I thought the acting was quite good.
Of all the movies I seen in the 1980's this one made me think. | Rating: 4/5 and the Terms and Policies, And who better than a pair of teenage high school girls to fight off the armies of darkness?
Directed by Thom Eberhardt. You know that theory where scientists believe a that a comet wiped out the dinosaurs? The radio station broadcasts their conversation and a think tank of creepy scientists are on their trail, as are a bandit of department store zombies who are also survivors but are slowly dying of the effects of the comet. Vocals are delivered with clean clarity and priority over the rest of the mix. quips Maroney's Samantha, a cheerleader.) Cheesy, but enjoyable satire is like the poor man's version of 28 Days Later (2002) with a big chunk of '80's vibe for flavor! Yes, it is a super camp film, but, you know, it's much different from a lot of B films in that you don't have to suffer through a lot of bad sets and make-up and emotionless robot actors. They entrench themselves in an abandoned radio station, meet up with another sole (and male) survivor, battle the occasional mutated zombie and of course go shopping without credit cards. Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney are perfectly cast, and do an excellent job at capturing the lighthearted comedic undertones of this campy '80s horror/comedy.
Night of the Comet along with Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Motel Hell is probably one of best examples of good cheesy horror. This particular endeavor may very well have been the cause. Rather than following adults, it focuses almost exclusively on a cast of teenagers. There's no question Night of the Comet was made in the 1980s, and that's a positive for people who have enjoyed similarly silly sci-fi flicks like Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps and other delightfully airy efforts from that decade. Same goes for the "it's cute to have multiple sex partners, especially if my sister is into them" element, which from my initial perspective was just overplaying a sibling rivalry that was already too obvious. From a script he also wrote, director Thom Eberhardt made the wise choice of providing these girls with a backstory that audiences can sympathize with.
HELLO?! This is a fun 1984 film with an end-of-the-world scenario. There have been funny scary movies before and scary funny movies since, but some of the best examples of those perfectly balanced action, horror, and science fiction comedies were made in the 80's. | Fresh (25) Coming Soon.
