It is vital for two reasons. We’re going to Shout Shout Shout in the river,  I believe the Lord is urging us as the body of Christ and as His bride to stand together, to not get hung up on details but to stay in step and to move forward with His Spirit as He guides and leads us BUT WITH THANKSGIVING AND JOY as one body, not with grumbling and disunity. Distort scripture – I used your own (studied out) definitions to interpret…and it wasn’t even complicated or deep… it was simplistic. >>>>>>> RESIST FEAR FOR IT COMES AGAINST OUR FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD, 30 And as the sailors were trying to escape [secretly] from the ship and were lowering the small boat into the sea, pretending that they were going to lay out anchors from the bow, We don't have waterspouts around here. The line “we will never b denied” is simply a promise found in scripture, not a demand to be made. A waterspout is basically a tornado in the ocean. The ocean, filled with rocks and coral, teeming with life. So we see a reference to God’s “Severe Dealings”, or a severe attack against peace or “A soul in the horrible pit hearing little else but the calls of law and justice for vengeance…” and the only possible response would be a “CRY OUT TO, CRY OUT TO, YOU JESUS” because he’s the answer…, …and the rest of the song continues with falling into Deeper Waters (Jesus-Living Water) and going after Him… and following Him…. We’re walking into deeper waters, going after You.

I genuinely agree with you that many churches are dead in their worship. He was of the tribe of Levi and therefore set apart to be a member of the priesthood in Israel.

Beautiful. For you cast me into the deep… All your waves and your billows passed over me. You don’t need a Masters in Sacred Music and you don’t need a PhD in Psalmodic literature. 17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, 18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), 19 And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, And if they don’t line up with Scripture then when we open our ears we’re not hearing what God wants us to hear but what man would have us hear. Now, It isn’t true that I need to get experience or do something for the Kingdom in order for my criticism to be valid. — Deep cries out to Deep — Everybody knows about the panting deer of the opening line of Psalm 42, and many experience the sentiment that gave rise to this image. Frankly, “Deep…” tripped me up a bit; so I was glad to see that I wasn’t the only person having trouble squaring the lyrics to scripture. I can appreciate that my reply may have come across as cold, calculating and blunt. So we cry out to, we cry out to, You Jesus, We’re falling into deeper waters, calling out to You We see it in Jonah’s prayer inside the belly of a great fish. Deep calleth unto deep.

>>>>>> ALSO ENCOURAGE/STOP OTHERS FROM JUMPING SHIP, WE ARE ONE BODY – IF ONE SUFFER ALL WILL SUFFER, 33 While they waited until it should become day, Paul entreated them all to take some food, saying, This is the fourteenth day that you have been continually in suspense and on the alert without food, having eaten nothing. I don’t think that I’m superior to anyone else or that I’ve arrived. Firstly, ambiguous lyrics afford the churchgoer the ideal opportunity to read into the song the meaning that comports best with their view of what God should be like. “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2. We’re going Jump Jump Jump Jump in the river,  That you again for writing this interesting and thought provoking blog entry and for seeking the presence of truth in all we do in the church. I’m not saying that the literary skills used in Christian contemporary music should be reduced to a fourth grade level, but rather that there should be a clear, indisputable meaning in the lyrics. There are a lot of reformed bloggers and theology pundits out there who are only interested in using their theology as a tower to snipe at others. Other songs will mean different things to different people and sometimes different things at different times in their lives depending on what they are going through. You’ve got a forum to do so…with an apparent following… and an apparent gift! I once heard my Pastor say, "I'm just a guy with a bucket full of grace," and that has always stuck with me. Creation began when the Spirit of God hovered over the waters, and darkness lay on the face of the deep (tehom; same word; and note that the word for 'to' is 'el, which is also the word for God). What’s that?

So does this open the floor to sing any song we want in worship? I genuinely care about you as individuals and your theology and your walk with God, not in a condescending way but as your equal. Change ), You are commenting using your Facebook account. 23 For this [very] night there stood by my side an angel of the God to Whom I belong and Whom I serveand worship, 24 And he said, Do not be frightened, Paul! I notice the peoples faces, astounded, surprised and some even enjoying what they see. 22 But [even] now I beg you to be in good spirits and take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you but only of the ship. Seriously guys, why shouldn’t we hold everything up to the light of scripture. Like in Acts 27, at the end the Lord will leave us no choice but to jump off the sinking ship, into deeper intimacy with Him, into a safer place where there is blessing upon blessing, joy upon joy. The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is with them. I’m not saying this as a cheap debater’s trick or to win browning points with you. In the absence of a clear exposition by the writers of this song, the ambiguous lyrics lend themselves to all manner of interpretations, each ostensibly as valid as the other. This also has a parallel meaning when applied to prayer that cries out unto God. Perhaps we can understand this better if we realize that we now have the Holy Spirit living in us, and He has chosen to … Peace does not mean that there aren't people deliberately trying to destroy you. These are often extremely large and amazingly violent, pulling up tons of ocean water and gushing it out into the clouds.

We’re going to jump in the river,

In that way, you magnify the Lord.Where did you find the old drawing of the waterspouts at sea? But that's far from all. people that spend time finding fault in people, lyrics, programs that are Kingdom minded, repulse me. Psalm 42 is a dance of fluidic words.

What do you mean I am blind? I so avidly desired to write about what’s been on my heart lately (my friend would call it “down to earth stuff”).” In the same way that what’s on your heart may not be 100% infallible (without error) neither is the hearts of the other writers being attacked and for that matter…neither was the Psalmist, David etc…. I believe there is a song with these words, a song of joy and abandon. Deep cries out to You.

Your description, however, of the Deep in God makes the meaning so much more powerful for me. >>>>>> FOR WHAT IS TO COME, THE WORD IS OUR ONLY STRENGTH AND SAFETY Salena October 15, 2015 at 1:37 pm. thank you to Bethel and the stable of stud worshipers and writers. I came across this discussion this morning and if it was not for the series of things happening over the last 5 days, I would never dream of commenting. Where healing requires transformation. The very quality hat most christians today seem to be lacking. My friend had this song, ‘Deep Cries Out’, come to him as he prayed for me last night. Unbiblical?

Do we not want to worship God for who is, not for who we make him to be?

You write in another of your posts, “Although I immensely enjoy the very academic side of things (theology and all that jazz). I interpret our songs for the Deaf in church. However, when you are having one-on-one time with God where you’re praising him, the focus shouldn’t be on what they’re singing but concentrating on praising God.

Shout Shout Shout in the river Everybody. I mean this literally, but I also mean it in every other aspect of our lives. I tried to continue with my day but I knew I would not find rest until I find the words if this song. His depths are so much bigger than our depths that they can cleanse all that muck from the depths of our ocean and turn it into a cleansing rain. I have to disagree with you. This makes the report of His dying by Matthew and Mark highly remarkable, if not boldly referential, "And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit" (Matthew 27:50); "And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed His last" (Mark 15:37). ( Log Out /  14. Yes! Biblically, it is common that people are filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4, Eph 5:14), which is a manifestation of God, proving his blessing. I think there are better ways to serve God. In Romans 8 we read about creation groaning and suffering anxiously from longing for the revelation of the sons of God, and we must recognize that in the private ardor of Psalm 42, the voice of the entire universe resounds, perhaps even as primary intend. I think God is big enough to not be limited by our own understanding…but as another poster so eloquently put it… God is multi-faceted. There is one positive mention of the verse by Thomas Horton. That said, I can’t stand people who criticise, criticise but never lift a finger to advance God’s kingdom. I am no scientist myself, in fact I am quite the contrary. The worship team at the camp played this song for three days straight, and the only lead I had to go on was the reference to Psalm 42:7, which, to the untrained reader, is just as vague. *I don’t agree with how you’re using Romans 14:4 but that’s not going to really get us anywhere because you’ll say that I’m relying on man’s understanding and I’ll say that you are and we’ll have a stalemate within a stalemate. "Deep cries out to deep" refers to the certainty within you to keep your heart beating, your breathing ongoing, and your growing doubts about the motives of the religious that you try to squelch. After a while, breathing is impossible and Jesus' actual cause of death was exhaustion and asphyxia.
